How to Start a Bullet Journal
Are you looking for a list of what you need to start a bullet journal? If so, read on!
You’ve seen all of the gorgeous spreads on Instagram, and searched for inspiration on Pinterest. You’ve researched all the hashtags, and picked out a handful of journals you’d love to try out. You’ve collected a few new accounts to follow and you’re ready to take the plunge into the journaling community. You’re next thought is, ”Where do I start?”
Great question! When you are searching through all of the beautifully staged and edited photos, you feel like you have SO much you want to buy Now! Once you start shopping and adding to your online cart, you can start to feel overwhelmed by how much this journaling thing is going to cost. I’ve been there. It can be enough to make you stop before you even start.
Here’s the thing… You can start with a few things that you may even have on hand to get you started!
My goal in this post is to help you get started with a list of things you can pick from to get your first journal going! Once you’ve read this post, head over to these posts to keep you going:
I have had poor quality journals that were so bad I didn’t want to put anything in them. It’s frustrating when you sit down to write or create, only to have your pen bleed through to the other side and you can’t use that page.
I recommend looking at reviews of journals you are interested in before you buy!
My two favorite journals for quality are Archer & Olive and Dingbats Notebooks.
**I will have a review available on both of them soon! Stay tuned.

Everyone has their own style, and their own ideas. Some love black and white spreads, some use beautifully designed color pallets to fill their pages. It’s entirely up to you!
I started with a simple pencil for sketching out my layouts, and Micron pens. I like to draw my own details, so a pen and pencil was all I needed at first. If you don’t like to draw, there are thousands of stickers and washi tape options for journaling that add a beautiful touch to your spread. Stencils are also a great option!
