How to Find Bullet Journal Inspiration

Inspiration is everywhere you look.

I am often asked how I continue to find new inspiration for my journal. Sometimes it’s easy to get stuck when you’re feeling uninspired. I’ve been there! Here are the things I like to do to stay inspired, and spark new ideas when I’m feeling out of ideas. I hope you’ll find these tips helpful!

  1. Pinterest

Pinterest is an incredible resource for finding inspiration! It’s a simple app that allows you to search the idea you’re looking for, then save the ideas (“Pins”) you’d like to come back to later! You can even organize your pins into categories to help you find them easier after your collection starts growing.

I do love that you can find almost anything you are looking for on Pinterest. Here are some of the ideas I like to search when I am looking for inspiration:

  • Bullet Journal / BuJo (Short for bullet journal)

  • Weekly Layout / Weekly Spread

  • Bullet Journal theme ideas

  • Bullet Journal tracker ideas

  • Bullet Journal monthly cover

Those are just a few generic ideas that will help you find some great inspiration! If you have something specific you are wanting inspiration on, for example October ideas, here are some searches I would try to narrow it down for me:

  • Bullet journal October themes

  • Fall bullet journal Ideas

  • Halloween journal ideas

  • Fall/Halloween doodles (Sometimes I will search doodles because you can find some great doodles that will spark a theme idea!)

Nature

2. Nature

Nature is one of my greatest inspirations! Ideas are all around you if you are looking for them.

I keep a pocket notebook or a spot on my note taking app on my phone for writing down journal inspiration. I will find inspiration when I’m out walking or hiking. Or taking a Sunday drive with my family.

We just took a family vacation to Yellowstone National Park this summer. The inspiration was unending! I was so inspired by the Grand Teton Mountains we drove by to get to our destination, that my upcoming journal theme for November is mountains!

Here are some recent inspirations I found in nature:

  • Mountains

  • Leaves & Pumpkins

  • Wildlife

  • Snowy trees

  • Flowers

These are just a few ideas off of my very long list of ideas. What inspires you in nature?

Books & Movie Inspiration

3. Books & Movies

If you like books and movies, they can be a huge inspiration for your journaling!

As an avid reader and movie watcher, I take SO much inspiration from them! As you can see in the image above, I took this from a couple of the scenes in the fourth and fifth Harry Potter movies.

Again, the possibilities are endless! I’ve even seen many journalers use TV shows to inspire them. Here are some of my favorite inspirations I’ve drawn from in my journaling:

  • Harry Potter

  • Wizard of Oz

  • Beauty & the Beast

  • Anything Disney

  • Lord of the Rings

  • Star Wars

What are your favorites that can inspire your journaling?

Finding Inspiration

4. Simple Things

Even the smallest thing can inspire you to create if you let it.

Lastly, I want to share some small but simple ways to add new inspiration to your journaling.

Look around you… Surely you have something you love close by! Is it a coffee? A quote? Picture of somewhere beautiful? Books? Candles? Music? A really cool clock on the wall?

These are all things you could use as inspiration if you just let your imagination turn it into a creation!

Below are some ideas of small things that can inspire you:

  • Color pallets

  • Shapes

  • Your favorite drink (For me that’s coffee!)

  • Food

  • A gemstone that catches your eye

  • A flower/tree/plant

  • Weather

  • Butterflies and Lady bugs

  • Music

These are just a few ideas to get your imagination going. One day soon I’d love to put together an ultimate list of ideas for you to choose from! So stay tuned!

If you found this helpful, I’d love to know about it! Drop me a note and let me know what inspires you?

Here’s to joyful journaling! Blessings Lovelies!

Love, Holly
